Saturday 10/01 Bryce Canyon is our new favorite place. One of the best things about traveling is the excitement and anticipation of discovering a new treasure just around the corner. Bryce Canyon did not disappoint in that respect. It is full of treasures! We discovered that Bryce Canyon NP is not actually a canyon. It is a spectacular series of 14 unique amphitheaters carved into pastel limestone along the Paunsaugunt Plateau. They are full to overflowing with rock sculptures, spires, pinnacles, windows, arches and finials. The pink rock is referred to as the Claron Formation or Pink Cliffs. And all of that is set into a pine forest that is stunning in its own right. Because of the higher elevations (up to 9100 ft.) there are also aspens, in all their golden glory, adding to the sight. One of the outlooks we visited, Paria Point, was one of the most peaceful places I have ever experienced. I could have stayed there all day. No crowds, no sound, just nature's beauty wrapping you up and hugging you. I know that sounds silly, but it was how I felt there.
Leonardo DaVinci: Human subtlety will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple, or more direct than does Mother Nature, because in her inventions nothing is lacking and nothing is superfluous.
Henry David Thoreau: The finest workers of stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.
Sorry about getting carried away, but these guys say it much better than I do. Beautiful Day!
